Lemon Hill
Lemon Hill, by virtue of its location at the Southeastern end of Fairmount Park, was one of the first acquisitions of the park in 1844. In 1925, it was offered to Fiske Kimball, the new director of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, as a residence. Kimball and his wife lived briefly in the villa known as Mount Pleasant while they undertook serious restoration of Lemon Hill, and then moved in. Kimball would undertake several other restorations of villas in the park, which he called "The Colonial Chain." Today Lemon Hill is part of the six historic house museums that brand themselves "The Charms of Fairmount Park." Two of those houses are managed by the PMA, and Lemon Hill is under the joint stewardship of the Colonial Dames and the Friends of Lemon Hill.
